WHY TATTOO AFTERCARE IS IMPORTANT

WHY TATTOO AFTERCARE IS IMPORTANT

A tattoo is more than just a piece of art, it’s a medical procedure too. A tattoo artist uses a needle to insert ink under your skin, leaving you susceptible to scarring or infections. Tattoo aftercare prevents these complications and ensures that your tattoo will heal properly and quickly. Tattoo aftercare also keeps your tattoo looking fresh as the day it was done.

HOW TO PROPERLY CARE FOR YOUR TATTOO:

Your tattoo artist should apply a thin layer of antibiotic ointment over your tattoo and then cover the area with a bandage or plastic wrap. This covering prevents bacteria from getting into your skin, whilst absorbing excess fluid and ink that may leak from the tattoo. It also protects the tattoo from rubbing onto your clothes and getting irritated.

After a few hours of having your tattoo covered (your tattoo artist should provide a recommended time as to how long to keep your bandage on as it varies), cleanse your hands and proceed to carefully remove the bandage. Once removed there may be excess fluid and ink leaking from your tattoo which is normal. Your skin may also be red and sore. To clean your tattoo we recommend using our exfoliating body wash with warm water and then follow with our moisturiser and vibrancy serum. Afterwards, leave your tattoo exposed to air to allow it to heal.

After a few days, scabs will begin to form and your tattoo may appear more dull. To help this,  you should wash your tattoo 1-2 times everyday using a tattoo exfoliating body wash, followed by using the moisturiser and vibrancy serum to help keep your tattoo as fresh as the day it was done.

After 4-6 days redness should begin to fade and you will notice lighter scabbing, do not pick the scabs as this can cause scarring. Our exfoliating body wash will help scabs heal faster and allow them to flake naturally without damaging your skin.

As the tattoo is healing it is essential to upkeep with moisturising as it keeps the tattoo vibrant and helps it heal faster whilst minimising the risk of infections.

LONG TERM TATTOO AFTERCARE TIPS:

You do not have to specifically care for your tattoo after 3-4 months however it is recommended as it will prevent the ink from degrading and keep your tattoo looking vibrant! We recommend washing the tattoo every day with our exfoliating body wash followed by using our tattoo moisturiser and brightening cream for as long as you want your tattoo to look fresh and replenished.
