WHAT TO DO WHEN CONSIDERING A TATTOO

WHAT TO DO WHEN CONSIDERING A TATTOO

WHY DO YOU WANT A TATTOO IN THE FIRST PLACE?

Are you getting the tattoo for someone else? You should never be influenced by anyone as to getting a tattoo or design that you do not truly want, you have to get it for the right reasons. Are you just following a trend? You don't want to get a tattoo you later regret. Make sure you are getting your tattoo for yourself and your own opinion is what matters most!

TATTOOS IN THE WORKPLACE

Some workplaces have rules against tattoos and they are not worth losing a job over, discuss the rules of your workplace with your boss first especially if it is a large visible tattoo.

CHOOSE YOUR DESIGN CAREFULLY

Your tattoo is part of your identity, you could choose a design that has a personal meaning or represents something you love or even in honour of a family member who has passed. Tattoos with writing should always be double checked and make sure you pick the perfect font! To help with choosing these look at existing tattoos and designs and identify what you like about them. You can find designs in books, social media, online etc.

WHERE DO YOU WANT YOUR TATTOO?

  • The placement of your tattoo is important as you may want to be able to cover your tattoo or you may want it to be visible everyday. You should think about the clothes you wear and what activities you participate in to help this.

  • Tattoo artists should print the design and put it on your skin temporarily as a guide and you can also see beforehand how it will look. If you are not 100% in your decision it is not too late to change your mind!

  • If you are unsure or do not want something permanent you could get your design done in Henna from a henna artist or even do it yourself as this can be a way to express yourself without it being there forever.

CHOOSE YOUR TATTOO COLOURS CAREFULLY

Consider how certain colours will match certain skin tones better and some colours may fade faster especially in certain places on your body. This should be taken into consideration.

CREATE YOUR OWN DESIGN

You can draw and create your own design or get someone to do it for you. When designing you should consider size and how expensive it will be. Going to a tattoo artist to get a quote is recommended as they can also redesign any drawing and temporarily put it onto your skin!

CHOOSE YOUR ARTIST

You should research what tattoo artists specialise in what tattoo style you want. Recommended tattoo artists from someone you know is always a good idea and you should always consider price. Don't just go to the tattoo artists that are convenient, go to the one which you feel most comfortable with and that will give you the best results.
